  • Overview

    Performs radiographs for the purpose of diagnoses.


    • Conduct x-ray examinations in accordance with the highest standard of safety, courtesy, morality and privacy.
    • Responsible for the care of the patient during the conduct of the s-ray examination in accordance with medical staff instructions.
    • Render emergency assistance if needed.
    • Prepare, position using correct patient identification and labeling images with lead markers.  Exposes x-ray images as indicated on the official Radiographic Examination Standards publication of BHMC or the control sheet or as directed.
    • Process imaging cassette so Radiologist can view images or send images to others.
    • Enter patient identifying information.
    • Provide adequate protection for patient.
    • Maintain room in clean, neat condition.
    • Notify others of equipment issues, maintenance needs that may contribute to reduction in safety of the patient or other hospital employees.
    • Perform other duties as required.



    • Graduate from an X-ray technician program.


    • No prior experience required.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Familiar with the needs of all infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
    • Must know and use proper exposure techniques for all examinations so as to produce radiographs according to standards set by Director and Attending Radiologist.
    • Must know and follow rules and regulations regarding radiographic techniques.
    • Able to read and follow identified tests related to imaging.
    • Ability to fully utilize BHMS’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.

    Licenses, Certifications:

    • Current NY State License for X-ray technology.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. 
    • Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing or exerting force up to 75 pounds.
