  • Overview

    The Occupational Therapy Supervisor is responsible to supervise staff and operations of the Occupational Therapy section of the Department of Rehabilitation under direction of the Chief of Occupational Therapy, according to the policies and guidelines of the Administrator and Department Director.  Responsibilities pertain to all sections of the Department of Rehabilitation and participation in facility operations.

    Responsibilities

    • Evaluation/Assessment and Direct Patient Care, as assigned
    • Written and oral reporting
    • Supervision of clinical and non-clinical staff pertaining to:
      • Provision of care
      • Clinical documentation and record keeping
      • Customer service
      • Adherence to Facility and Department guidelines and policies
      • Safety
    • Professional development
    • Ensuring adherence of staff to organizational and departmental standards and policies
    • Support of the mission and goals of the Schulman and Schachne Institute
    • Ensuring the highest standards of customer service by rehabilitation staff
    • Evaluation and Counseling of staff when needed
    • Completion of Occurrence/Incident Reports as needed
    • Attendance at staff and management meetings as requested
    • Participation in the Department In-service Program
    • Provision of clinical guidance to Occupational Therapy staff
    • Attendance at Interdisciplinary Care Team meetings
    • Participation in Community Re-entry Assessment Program, as per facility and department policies
    • Scheduling and assigning Annual Re-Assessments of long term residents
    • Monitoring of timeliness and accuracy of clinical documentation by staff
    • Participation in the Multiple Falls PI Committee Program as needed
    • Participation in the Occupational Therapy Program at the Adult Day Health Care program
    • Participation in weekend services program as needed, according to facility and department policy
    • Temporary adjustment to work schedule as needed
    • Reporting of summary of operations daily to the Chief of Occupational Therapy
    • Performing other related duties when required

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Bachelor Degree in Occupational Therapy from an AOTA accredited program, or equivalent
    • Master's highly desired, Doctorate preferred

    Experience:

    • Minimum three (3) years' of well-rounded clinical experience

    Knowledge and Skill:

    • Computer literate Microsoft suite, managing office equipment.
    • Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
    • Demonstrates high proficiency of the English language, verbal and written.
    • Demonstrates working knowledge of the health care environment, dynamics of hospital internal and external customer relations including physician, employees and patients.
    • Demonstrates a high level of personal accountability to role model and lead by example the expectations for all associates to provide exemplary customer service.
    • Demonstrates independent judgment and self-motivation.

    Licenses, Certifications:

    • New York State License in Occupational Therapy and current NYS Registration

    Physical Requirements:

    • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. 
    • Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.
