  • Overview

    Instructional designers serve as an Epic IT Coordinator with additional responsibilities to develop and implement the training program for their applications.

     

    Instructional designers are integral members of the project team and should attend validation and reengineering sessions. During these sessions, they can gain in-depth knowledge of the rationale behind workflow design and learn the system functionality supporting the workflows for their applications.

     

    Instructional designers should attend Epic application training and complete certification in preparation for validation and curriculum development. In addition to application training, instructional designers should attend the Training, Environments, and Documentation class offered at Epic to learn about preparing training curriculum, materials, and environments.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with the training manager to analyze resource availability, including trainers, rooms, and workstations
    • Master both an Epic application and BHMC’s specific workflows
    • Develop and implement the training program for their respective application(s)
    • Build, test, and maintain the training environment
    • Develop and maintain training materials
    • Train credentialed trainers within the organization
    • Provide training for new hires
    • Coordinate training for software releases and updates
    • Function as an Epic IT Coordinator with additional responsibilities to develop and implement the training program for their applications.
    • Attend and validation reengineering sessions to gain in-depth knowledge of the rationale behind workflow design.
    • Learn the system functionality supporting the workflows for their applications.
    • Attend Epic application training and complete certification in preparation for validation and curriculum development.
    • Attend the Training, Environments, and Documentation class offered at Epic to learn about preparing training curriculum, materials, and environments.

    Qualifications

    Education: 

    • BA required; focus on healthcare, business, IT, or computer science preferred.

    Experience: 

    • Clinical/operational experience (recommended, not required).

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
    • Skill in adult education.
    • A detailed understanding of workflows and system configuration.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • A strong belief in the value of installing Epic.
    • The ability to write well.

    Licenses, Certifications:

    • Must be certified EPIC instructional Designer or obtain certification within 90 of training completion.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, sitting, walking throughout the working day. 
    • Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
